CMC contains the Data Center along, acting as the distribution center for Carleton's network.

The CMC supplies fiber connectivity to all buildings on campus.

 

Closet Locations

MDFs

The CMC's MDF is located in the basement in room CMC08.

CMC 08 connects to the building's through fiber cabling IDFs, allowing them to supply the rest of the building.

CMC 08 also supplies all of the labs in the buildings.

IDFs

First Floor

There are three IDFs in the CMC.  The first is CMC 140 at the end of the hall right straight ahead of the main entrance. It has two switches, a UPS, and a WAP.

Second floor

The second is CMC 240 at the end of the hallway in front of the main stairs on the second floor.  It has a switch, a UPS, and a WAP.

Third floor

The last is CMC 340 at the end of the hallway in front of the main stairs on the third floor. It has a switch, a UPS, and a WAP.

Cabling

Type

The CMC uses fiber, and copper CAT5e cabling.

CMC 140 has two switches.  CMC 240 and CMC 340 each have one switch.

The CMC has Cisco 6509 switches with eight 48 10/100/1000 blades

Additional Comments

If there are not enough available blades in a switch, the IDF switches can be connected through copper wire.  Ideally, the switches should be separately connected for electrical reasons.

The _41 closets serve the labs in that they provide a path for the CMC 08 MDF to directly support them.  All of the cable that reaches the labs goes through the _41 closets. They also allow underfloor access to the wiring to the labs.

The CMC 08 contains distributed antennas for Verizon and T-Mobile.  They are shown below.
